“The best evidence suggests that learning begets learning, that early investments in learning are effective. As a society, we cannot afford to postpone investing in children until they become adults, nor can we wait until they reach school age—a time when it may be too late to intervene.”
James J. Heckman, Ph.D. and Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences | Professor of Economics and Director, Center for the Economics of Human Development, University of Chicago

We are thrilled to announce that Spartanburg County First Steps has been awarded a federal grant of $5.5 million, $1.1 million a year for 5 years, to fund Early Head Start program services.
The Early Head Start program of Spartanburg County consistently serves 120 eligible pregnant women and/or children through comprehensive child development and family services. The program currently functions in 5 childcare centers.
The grant will enable EHS to expand into 5 more centers in the coming year! This is huge news as there are currently between 2,000 and 3,000 children in Spartanburg County that are eligible for acceptance into the program.
Congratulations to Spartanburg County EHS Program Director Ekky Foss and her team are the great news!
