This week, several of our staff participated in a Poverty Simulation — an interactive experience designed to shed light on the day-to-day challenges faced by families living in poverty.

The simulation placed participants in real-life scenarios where they had to navigate limited resources, unexpected obstacles, and difficult decisions while trying to secure food, childcare, housing, and access to services. The goal of this exercise is to build empathy, deepen understanding, and encourage community-driven solutions that support families more effectively.

We are grateful to Cherokee County First Steps, Union County First Steps, and Piedmont Community Action for hosting this important event. Opportunities like this remind us why our work matters and how we can continue to advocate for families in our communities.
